    If you want to give work to a few students in a class, you do NOT need to create a classroom for them. Per assignment, the teacher can select which students will receive that assignment/announcement/etc. Watch here to see how it is done in Google Classroom.

  • How to take attendance with remote learning?

    Last spring, I took attendance in two ways:

    1. On the days that I had a video class during the scheduled time, I did a face check by requiring my students to turn on their video and direct the camera to their face.

    2. On days I posted an assignment but did not have a video class, as part of the assignment I asked the students a question to which they must respond by a certain time. See sample. If they responded by that time, then I marked them present in PowerSchool. BTW, if notifications are turned on, students will be notified when a teacher marks them absent in PowerSchool. I have found that a student may answer the question after noticing they were marked ansent.

  • Can Google Classroom transfer grades to PowerSchool?

    Answer: Yes, but it takes so many steps that it may be easier to manually enter grades. A video of the process will be posted after classes are set up.

  • What does archiving a class in Google Classroom do?

    The homepage of Google Classroom has all your active classes. When a class term is over (or you want to start fresh), you have the option of archiving the class. If you want to archive, simple click on the triple dot of the chosen class and select Archive.

     

    Archiving will accomplish the following:

    * Move the class data from "Classes" to "Archived class"

    * Allow any teacher of that class or enrolled student to continue to view material, discussions, posts, work, and grades. This does not expire unless the teacher deletes the class

    * Allow any teacher of the class to access posts when reusing a post in an active class

    * NOT allow any changes to grades, posts, comments, etc. If changes are desired, a teacher will need unarchive by selecting Restore in the triple dot of chosen class on the Archived classes page
