Hello Families and Friends of Fourth Graders,
I am so excited to have just started my 20th year as an educator. 19 of those years have been right here at BES, my home away from home! After 10 years teaching 5th grade, I had an opportunity to switch to 4th and this is truly where I love being. Students at this age tend to have such a love of learning, a desire to do well and most importantly are able to have some fun while doing it!
As a parent, I know that it's always nice to know a little something about my children's teachers, so here's a bit about me. I grew up in Webster, MA, where I still spend a great deal of my time on the lake, Lake Chaubunagungamaug. Whether boating, floating, listening to concerts, or simply hanging out with friends and family, it is a great place to be and how I spend a great deal of my summers! I reside in Thompson, CT, now and have since 2001. Everyone tends to drop their jaws when I say that, but then I explain that it's only 34 miles from my doorstep to my parking spot at BES and it suddenly doesn't seem so bad! I always tell people that it's well worth the trip because BES is very special. I am married to my husnand, Derek and we have two children, our pride and joys! Garret just started his sophomore year and Mady is in 7th grade. I am unsure how any of that is possible because it seems like I just had them both, but as the saying goes, "time flies when you're having fun"! Both of my kids are active in sports year round, which makes for hectic school years on the homefront. Watching them play sports is by far my favorite pastime, though. I received my bachelor's degree at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA. I will always be a Warrior! I finally decided to go back to get a Masters' Degree in School Leadership/Administration a few years back and graduated in Dec. 2016. I was amazed at how much I enjoyed being a student again at Worcester State University!
My philosophy of education is quite simple; we are a TEAM. Let's face it, during the week, I probably spend more awake time with your children than most of you do. Once a child enters my classroom, I am immediately invested in them and their learning, as well as their emotional well-being. I appreciate and strongly encourage open, honest and frequent communication. Even if you think it's silly, but question whether you should contact me about something, please do. I look forward to working with you all throughout the school year as we watch "our" kiddos flourish!
